Avalanche Skills Training Level 2

As advanced sledders, the one thing we can control out in the backcountry is the terrain that we choose to ride. These important decisions are based on many factors and often, they have to be made many times during the day as we changes aspects and elevations.

Avalanche Skills Traingin Level 2 is suitable for people with a moderate degree of training and experience and who have taken an AST 1 course in the recent past. An AST 2 course builds on the foundations of your AST 1, expands much further on lessons learned and provides an intermediate decision-making framework for travelling in avalanche terrain.

The course comprises a minimum of 9.5 hours of classroom instruction with a minimum of three days in the field. The course is primarily field based with a strong focused on terrain selection and management.  The course begins with a 3-4hr refresher the evening prior to the first field day and the remaining class time is comprised of morning and evening planning/review sessions over the next three days.

You want to start pushing into larger terrain? AST2 should be your first step
